Since March 2018, my goal has been to inspire, motivate, encourage, and equip believers to see their gifts as more than tools to give themselves pleasure or to earn a living; they can become tools of change. I believe that if we give ourselves and our gifts to the Lord, He can transform them into powerful, anointed tools that can change lives and change the world.
Everything in this world is based on writing: TV scripts, movie scripts, advertising; we think in word-thoughts. We know that words influence our beliefs and actions. If every Christian writer believed they are called to a higher purpose than simply pleasing themselves or gaining success in the world’s eyes, and if they acted on that belief, God would have access to the writers who could best represent Him and His kingdom to the world—His own children. That, to me, in an incredible dream. The potential of that dream is beyond what I can imagine, but it is what God has stamped on my heart.
Pursuing the Creative Call
Do you know that when God made you, He intentionally put the capacity to create within you?
I’ve been a Christian for thirty years but often found it hard to believe that I had anything in common with God. I’m human, He’s Spirit. I’m a sinner saved by grace, He’s utterly pure. What could we possibly have in common? And how could anything I do be good enough for Him?
But then I read Jordan Raynor’s devotional from his amazing book, Called to Create. He writes that the first thing God did in Genesis was create. Not only that, He gives us the ability to worship Him when we create. How? When we obey Him by using our god-given abilities, gifts, and talents to do the work we are called to do.
I’m a writer. I write books, stories, articles, and more. I communicate ideas and share insights.
Therefore, like God, I create too.
Now I finally had something tangible to link me to my Creator–the very act of creating itself!
That single discovery changed me and gave my life new purpose.
As mentioned, my vision for this website is to inspire, exhort, support, and equip Christian Creatives by providing the tools needed (both spiritual and practical) to fulfill the amazing and privileged call on our lives. I like to think of the Nexus as an oasis where the weary can be resourced and the active can share their work. Either way, the goal is to strengthen and build up the Body.
Why Does God Give Us Gifts?
God has gifted every Christian with abilities and talents. Whether a writer, a visual artist, a photographer, a musician, dancer, etc., those talents were given for our enjoyment and our audience’s pleasure. But more importantly, God is pleased when we use our gifts for His plans and purposes, and His glory.
1 Corinthians 12:4-6
4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them.5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.
The Next Steps:
The more I research and seek God, the more I realize that everything we do is important to Him, and that our works can be used in the furtherance of His Kingdom on earth. Our vision might be small but God’s is global. And, amazingly, we have a part in that. (Click here to read more).
